Niti's Story
A flock of seagulls swooped up and down in mid air, looking as if they’re toying with the golden flecks of the early morning sun that reflected off of the azure water of the Gulf of Thailand.
Nearby, a helicopter surveyed the surrounding area that appeared to be a gigantic commercial oil tanker. As hundreds of men vigorously worked, one man stood still. He wore a white jumpsuit with a matching white hat, his arms folded, his eyes pondered the scene in front of him as if it were a priceless artifact on display in the lobby of a five-stars hotel.
That scene to me, Niti Sawangsap, was the remembrance of my early childhood years.
And that man in the jumpsuit and white hat was a hero in one of the movies. He was super cool!
Being a curious kid, I immediately wanted to know the profession of that cool guy.
I asked my father, “daddy…what does he do?”
“He’s a petroleum engineer.” Was my father’s short reply.
Ever since that day..a spark of dream has erupted inside of me.
When I grow up, I will become a petroleum engineer!!!
I am a country boy, growing up in Chonburi Province’s Baanbung district.
Both my parents teach at Chonburi Technical College. My father teaches mechanical engineering. My mother teaches science.
The one thing that my parents always tell me to remember is to have determination and endurance, especially when it comes to education.
In my youth, I finished 4th grade from a tiny school near my house.
Then my father transferred me to Assumption College in Sriracha to continue on to 5th grade. That was my first experience with boarding school.
As soon as I finished 5th grade, both my parents had transferred themselves to Bangkok to work at the Board of Education for my sake. They had wanted me to get used to the city lifestyle one year before applying to 6th grade at Suankularb Wittayalai School.
Much to my parent’s expectations, I passed the test and was accepted into Suankularb Wittayalai School. Part of the reason, I am sure, was because I had a solid foundation in education and was often top of the class when it comes to tests.
My dream was to pass the entrance examination and get accepted at the prestigeous Chulalongkorn University’s Engineering School. Then I wanted to be at the top of my class and the best in Thailand!
I must’ve studied around 8-10 hours per day in addition to taking tutoring courses continuously for more than a year.
One month before the entrance examination, I realized that becoming Thailand’s top student is a long shot. I became discouraged and eventually stopped studying. I had let my dream go!
Year 2530, the entrance examination’s result came out. I, Niti Sawangsap from Suankularb Wittayalai School, ranked 25th with a score of 450 and was accepted as a freshman for Chulalongkorn University’s Engineering School.
At the time, 480 was the highest score received by the kid who ranked top in engineering school.
…He won me by merely 30 points.
From that incident on, I have learned a new lesson in life,
… it’s not over till it’s over, don’t give up.…
Niti Sawangsap
I chose to major in Mining Engineering with an option in petroleum engineering. There were only eight of us in all for a graduating class for this major.
I was very much into extracurricular activities. I was a ‘warker’ for a committee that overlooked the process of freshman initiation. I also joined the fencing team as well.
The fact that I was always occupied with extracurricular activities has taken a toll with my study. My GPA slipped lower and lower, and I ended up failing a Fluid Mechanic class. Because of that reason, my graduation plan was delayed and I had missed a chance to graduate with my fellow classmates.
I learned how much that decision has an impact on my life. I chose ‘pleasures’ over ‘difficulties’ so I ended up with that at the end. But being very social in college has taught me many things as well.
I have a broader view of the world.
I can cope well with pressure.
I can work continuously without much rest.
I have lots of friends and acquaintances.
Most importantly, I have learned the power of ‘positive thinking’ and ‘positive talking’.
Sometimes, seeing only the positives and ignoring the negatives, much like closing one side of the eyes, will make the team go forward and finally succeed at the end.
I was one of the first generation of petroleum engineers who went abroad in hopes of pioneering the foreign markets.
I started out with a company called Baker Huge Inteq, which is a corporation that oversees the process of oilfield drilling and safety evaluation.
Oil rig
The company sent me a plane ticket that flew me to Hat Yai International Airport in Songkla province. From there it was another 180 kilometers on a helicopter ride to the final destination: an offshore oil rig in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand! Equivalent to a huge steel mine, this offshore oil rig was not only very strong but also very stable, with castings going far down into the bottom of the sea.
A day in the life of a petroleum engineer is generally very comfortable. The living quarters are conveniently outfitted with a host of amenities, easily comparable to any four-star hotel in Bangkok.
But the sun doesn’t always shine in a petroleum engineer’s life, as natural disasters often occur out at sea. Although my net worth as a petroleum engineer was quoted as high as 25 million baht, I was not looking forward to dying young!
I stuttered. I was also very shy. And for those reasons, I always ended up sitting in the far back during meetings. A senior colleague of mine suggested that I apply to become an Amway Independent Business Owner (IBO) to improve upon my character, communication skills, human relations, and management tactics.
From a person who always thought inside the box, I made a 180-degree change after my experience with network marketing, which allowed me to become more sociable.
Niti and Mukda
I eventually discovered that the lifestyle of my senior colleague, after a decade of working as a petroleum engineer, was as tiresome and monotonous as when he first started, living out on the same oilrig or an oil tanker for long periods of time. Although the pay was excellent and work generally fun, we were always far from our loved ones with very few chances to sit down and have dinner with the rest of our families.
Furthermore, a salary comparison between a senior level petroleum engineer who makes 100,000+ baht and an executive level Amway IBO shows very little difference.
After working for three years, I had decided that my childhood dream of being a petroleum engineer had been fulfilled. I started dreaming a new dream of having financial freedom and the time to enjoy it.
Ultimately I quit my job and transferred myself to Bangkok as a Lighting Sales Engineer at a leading company from Germany. My income dramatically decreased more than half, but I was able to do my network marketing along with this new job.
That was the starting point of my involvement in the world of network marketing.
I was very naive in the past when it came to network marketing. I believed that the only way to succeed in this business was to become the ‘distributor’. I made my move as soon as the construction of Amway Philippines went underway. I flew over and surveyed the market before deciding to quit my full-time job without listening to the protests of anyone in my family, not even my own fianc?e. I packed my bags along with 300,000 baht in cash from the car that I sold and set off to the Philippines together with 30 other Thai Amway IBOs.
My goal was to become successful within a year.
It turned out that in order to start an Amway business abroad, one must reapply and start from zero. I thought about whom to choose as an ‘upline’ or leader and decided upon ‘Jim Dornan,’ the world-renowned Crown Ambassador of Amway. I was very honored to be chosen to attend an executive level meeting with the upline as his translator. The experience had given me the opportunity to access Amway’s inside information not widely known to the public.
Two weeks pass, a whole bunch of Thai Amway IBOs dropped out from the group. There were only three of us left: me, my friend, and another Thai upline. Eventually, I too was out of cash and decided to head home. It was a very depressing time in my life because I had failed.
I came back to Thailand in the year 2540, the same time as when the government devalued Thai baht, which resulted in me being out of work for a period of time. During that time, I had invented ‘AMTEL’ which was a communication tool that uses a voicemail system to support the expansion of network marketing organizations. I had introduced ‘AMTEL’ to Amway Thailand but the deal did not go through due to the system being too advanced for the time being.
I eventually renamed ‘AMTEL ‘to ‘TeleVOX’ and shifted the marketing direction to NuSkin, Herbalife, Nulife, and Kanzen-Kenko, which prompted a new opportunity for me. I had a chance to converse with high-ranking executives from each company and had learned that their marketing tactics and products are of quality no less than Amway’s.
Finally, the TeleVOX deal went through with Kanzen-Kenko and I was recruited by one of the high-ranking executives to join their company as the Marketing Consultant. For the first time in my life, my salary reached six-figure digits. I was more than ecstatic!
My management experience at Kanzen-Kenko had taught me to look at the world through the point of view of an executive as I had gained an understanding of various styles of managements.
As I was feeling quite satisfied with my role as a Marketing Consultant, my cravings for more time and financial freedom still persisted. My only answer to this dilemma was to become a very successful independent businessman.
As my experiences in this business broadened, I came to realize that ideal network marketing must have these components:
Successful, worldwide organization/entity.
Great quality products with selling points.
Marketing tactics that will induce stable profits.
Worldwide Link marketing style.
When the new American-born fruit juice company, Noni, ventured into Thailand from their headquarters in Utah, it became one of the fastest-growing companies in the world. I got on board as I realized that this company had all of the components listed above and I applied all of my skills to add to the company’s success.
For the first three months, my salary was in the six-digits range. 17 months later, I received my very first million baht paycheck.
In the process, I had expanded the company to over 15 countries worldwide.
In five years, I have taken close to 30 trips along with Noni to over 15 countries around the world.
I considered Noni my second MLM University that taught me network marketing on a global scale and which had given me an opportunity to work alongside other world-renowned businessmen.
At present, I decided to join one of the best international MLM company, “Agel Enterprise” since the end of May 2007 and currently makes more than 4 million baht a month.
Agel had that “dream opportunity” that I had been seeking. Not only was Agel the right company, but also Agel had the right products, right compensation plan and most importantly, the right timing.
I was also attracted to the fact that Agel, though young, was operational in over 50 countries worldwide and continued to set the precedent for global expansion. Furthermore, Agel had great leadership, both in the field and at corporate headquarters. That, combined with the most innovative compensation plan in the industry and a proven system of duplication, I recognized Agel as the best opportunity for financial freedom.
At Agel, I met many people both the company’s executives and staff, top leader, then I had a tour on corporate headquarter and manufacturing that gave me many advantages which would benefit to our network building. During the past 7 years in this networking industry, I has been in Utah not less than 15 trips and this time was the most notable one that I wanted to pass on to you.
The story started in the beginning of 2005
At that time I worked with Tahitian Noni, has achieved considerable success but when I decided to find new opportunity for myself then I made some research on 100 MLM global leading companies, after my analysis I short-listed to 6 best companies, they are Melaleuca, Unicity, USANA, Synergy, Agel and Monavie and then looked forward to the opening in Thailand, finally again I short-listed to 3 companies – Synergy, Agel and Monavie which I flew to meet their executives.
At that time, Synergy has already opened Thailand office , another 3 of 3 companies has planned to open their offices here, actually Agel is the most attractive for both innovative product and professional executives – though Agel is interesting but since the company has not yet opened officially, I am afraid that it could fail so I chose Synergy since the company was backed up by Nature Sunshine that should be more stable.
Two years in Synergy that I worked with my full effort, luckily that here I met Khun Buncha and his staff, also I had Khun Wan as my associate, lot of friends as well. All this made everything went well, it was two years that meant a lot to me, accidentally I had to quit Synergy and looked for a new challenge, anyway my thanks for all the help.
My impression towards Glen Jensen, the Founder
Met Glen Jensen again after first met two years ago, he looks a lot better with a gleam in his eyes, may be because his past success brighten his expression, Glen is deliberate, eloquent man, well, let me briefed a bit on his background experience.
Glen spent time living in Japan for many years so he speaks fluent Japanese, this was why he has experienced in Japan market, not long after his graduation, he joined NuSkin in customer service for almost 10 years. Glen later joined a pharmaceutical company then moved to Neways as International Market Business Development. Several years with long and success experiences, in 1999 he then founded Synergy Worldwide, successful ly launching in Japan. After the company was recognized as the 8th Fastest Growing new Business, he realized that it became hard to run business in Japan since the more expansion, the more investment needed. Finally due to cash flow difficulty he sold the company at 5.5 Million US Dollars to Nature Sunshine but still titled as President until the middle of 2002.
With some reasons he left Synergy Worldwide. Most recently Glen founder Agel Enterprises in October 2005, the positive result of gelceutical product was amazing and proven for the future ahead. Many top companies approached him for the purchase offers, value of the company soared up to 60 Million US Dollars but Glen ignored this proposal because he was sure that Agel will continue to success without limits.
True friendships, Chanida and Glen
Some may not know that after Glen was not an executive in Synergy, for a short period he worked as a distributor but later he found that he was not suitable for this job then he retired. During his time as a distributor he then realized on how people he knew treat him differently. In a distributors’ meetings, Glen , sitting humbly in the back seat, listening attentively to the speaker, someone he knew pretended not knowing him but not Chanida, every time she saw him at the back seat, she then grasped his hand urging him to sit in the front, whenever she was on stage and if Glen was there she would introduce him on his importance and honored him as a company’ s founder.
“Only time can tell”, true friend in hard times, their friendship was growing firm.
Thus in 2005 during Agel’s establishment, Glen approached Chanida and invited her as one of the management team, Chanida was also my friend so in the beginning of 2005 as previous informed I went to Utah but since Agel was just established, the future was uncertain this drove me chose to work with Synergy until Chanida left Synergy for Agel in April.
